Attention all Allies! You are invited to join the Office of Intercultural Engagement and Inclusion on September 8 and a continuing, more advanced training on November 17 for a Safe Zone training hosted by TCNJ’s own Dr. Jonathan Murakami.
This workshop will give participants opportunities to learn about gender and sexuality, and to examine how oppression hinders the creation of welcoming environments for LGBTQ+ people. We will also explore some of the enduring societal limits placed on empathy for LGBTQ+ people, and the steps non-LGBTQ+ people can do to reframe unjust social narratives about sexuality that damage everyone.
LGBTQIA+ students can face unique challenges in their college education that can serve as barriers to their development. This second workshop builds off of the introductory information from the first workshop and reviews skills and communications techniques that the TCNJ community can utilize when providing a safe space to LGBTQIA+ students.
