First Generation Student Success

TCNJ is committed to providing a supportive and affirming environment for its First Generation scholars, from first-gen faculty members eligible for tenure to undergraduates pursuing their family’s first ever degree.
First generation college students – defined as a student whose parents did not complete a 4-year college degree from a university in the United States – constitute over 54% of undergraduate enrollment nationwide, and rising. TCNJ in particular serves a student population that is over 30% first generation and has led a quiet charge for first-generation success for decades. Building on this legacy, Inclusive Excellence is proud to support a variety of campus-wide programs and initiatives designed to foster not just first-generation success, but first-generation excellence.
